BILL NUMBER: S4448 SPONSOR: PERSAUD TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 658 of the laws of 2002, amending the education law, relating to citizenship requirements for permanent certification as a teacher, in relation to extending the effectiveness thereof PURPOSE: Makes permanent provisions which enable a legal resident whose immi- gration status is that of a lawful permanent resident of the United States and who would otherwise be eligible and qualified to serve as a teacher, to apply for and to receive Permanent Certification as a teach- er SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section one of the bill amends section 2 of chapter 658 of the laws of 2002 that amended the education law relating to citizenship requirements for permanent certification as a teacher by removing the repealer.

PERSAUD, SALAZAR, THOMAS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Educa- tion AN ACT to amend chapter 658 of the laws of 2002, amending the education law, relating to citizenship requirements for permanent certification as a teacher, in relation to extending the effectiveness thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 658 of the laws of 2002, amending the education law, relating to citizenship requirements for permanent certification as a teacher, as amended by section 59 of part YYY of chapter 59 of the laws of 2017, is amended to read as follows: § 2. This act shall take effect immediately[, and shall expire and be deemed repealed November 30, 2022]. § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
